Las Alpujarras Las Alpujarras in the south east of Spain is a range of mountains and valleys nestled between the snow covered Sierra Nevada, the highest range in the Spanish peninsula, and the Costa Tropical of the Mediterranean. Unique species of flora and fauna make this area a paradise for nature lovers, walkers, horse riders, etc. The area offers a rare chance to enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of a traditional Spanish way of life, as well as wonderful opportunities to buy a wide range of properties in a breathtaking and unexploited area of southern Spain.

Properties for sale include cortijos, farmhouses, fincas (farms), land, building plots, village houses, town houses and business properties.
A part of this fascinating and beautiful region is the Valle de Lecrin, steeped in history and seemingly untouched by time. This is an area full of white-washed villages, dramatic gorges, wonderful walks, amazing views, deep ravines, quiet old churches and village squares, bustling markets, and friendly welcoming people. The area contains many beautiful, and often remote, villages like Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira all clinging to a hillside overlooking a dramatic gorge. There are also busy market towns like Orgiva and Lanjaron. The town of Trevelez is famous for its hams and for often being called the highest village in Spain.
The Moors made the Alpujarras their home for 800 years, and their influence is still evident: in the architecture, the place-names and certain dialect words. They also left an obvious physical legacy in two spectacular ways. Firstly, they built a network of tracks running between the high villages and north to Granada itself. But most famously, they also constructed a unique 500 km long irrigation system of channels or acequias. There are also springs dotted throughout the mountains, the majority of which offer some of the purest drinking water imaginable: in fact the local bottled natural mineral water comes from Lanjarón,
The Sierra Nevada region includes the two highest mountains in mainland Spain; Mulhacen and Veleta. It is a beautiful and dramatic mountain range and National Park area, with some parts still covered in snow well into the summer months. There is a world-famous ski station here, and the ski season lasts from December to April/early May. The Sierra Nevada region is also beautiful walking country. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada contain many small villages, set in picturesque surroundings and all with fascinating histories. Some of these include Huetor Vega which is recognised for its archaeological finds, Cenes de la Vega and Pinos Genil which are well-known areas for the growing of almond trees, Guejar Sierra which offers a wide range of outdoor activities, and El Charcon which is the starting points for many walks. Look out for new developments in Monochil, a must for the off-plan investor, and ski enthusiast. A new cable car is planned very soon for this town taking skiers direct to the snow.
