Costa Tropical

The name Costa Tropical comes from the sub-tropical climate that favors the cultivation of exotic crops such as avocados, custard apples and mangos. With warm winters and long hot summers, the average year round temperature is 20°C. It is a picturesque region with mountains running down to the sea, a coastline stretching for 19 km with no less than 26 different beaches, and far from being overcrowded with tourists, has managed to retain its Spanish character.

Almuñecar is regarded as the capital of the Tropical Coast and, compared to other coastal towns of the Costa del Sol, is still relatively underdeveloped. It is located 72km from Granada and 75km from Malaga. Traditionally a holiday destination for Spaniards, the town and its outskirts are becoming increasingly popular amongst foreign purchasers as a place to holiday and especially to relocate to. A shoreline of unspoiled beaches and idyllic coves, unique sub-tropical temperatures, an International school and increasingly improved road connections, all add to its attraction, particularly for families!

On the outskirts of town one can find well established urbanisations housing spectacular villas as well as new developments concentrating on mid-range housing such as modern townhouses, semi-detached and detached villas. The new motorway which has extended from Nerja and will reach Motril by the end of 2008 is opening up this whole region and possibilities for new businesses and a new life for foreign investors are endless.

Ten minutes further east one comes across Salobreña, a picturesque white village, topped by a Moorish castle, that clings to a large rock and spills down towards the shore. The last sugar cane plantations in Europe surround the town. It is 45 minutes from Granada and about one hour from the Sierra Nevada mountains. It has 6,000 years of history including a 10th century Moorish castle. Property varies from typical white village townhouses in the old town to beach front townhouses at the coast. For some of the best sea views and spectacular villas visit Los Almendros situated on the hillside behind this town.

For the lower end of the property market look further east and inland, around the towns of Motril and Lobres. Much new development offers the investor and holiday home purchaser the opportunity to jump on the Spanish property ladder whilst the prices are still low. Increases in value will be inevitable once the new motorway along the coast reaches the new motorway coming down to the coast from Granada.
This part of the Eastern Costa del Sol offers some of the best sites for water sports and adventure. From hang gliding and parasailing in La Herradura to scuba diving and yachting in Marina Del Este. Golf in Motril and skiing only an hour away, also add benefit to anyone considering a purchase in this region.
